Nuclear power is the best technology for mitigating global warming and climate change. Jerry Brown is anti-nuclear. Donald Trump is pro-nuclear. Yet Governor Brown is seen as being a champion of mitigating global warming and President-elect Trump is seen as being a global warming denier. Here is what Governor Brown said this week:
California Governor Jerry Brown rallied a group of scientists yesterday, striking a defiant tone when he suggested that California’s government would defy the federal government on any effort to stop or reverse policies fighting global climate change.
“We’ve got the scientists, we’ve got the lawyers and we’re ready to fight. We’re ready to defend,” he said to applause at the American Geophysical Union conference in San Francisco. “And California is no stranger to this fight. Our emission standards, our energy rules, drove U.S. policy. Whatever Washington thinks it is doing, California is the future.”
Governor Brown helped to close the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) and is working overtime to close California's only other operating nuclear power plant, Diablo Canyon. This does not sound like a champion of global warming mitigation to me. It sounds like someone who is promoting emissions increases in the state by opposing and working for the closure of emission free facilities. (Second Nexus, 12/15/2016)
